First Day of Classes 2012?

The office of the registrar says that Thursday, August 23rd is the first day of classes. This doesn't seem to make sense to me - does that mean that the following Monday is ACTUALLY the start of classes? Or do I have my MWF Calculus class on the 24th and then the rest of my classes starting the week after?

Forgive my confusion.

23rd is a thursday so you only go to classes that you would normally have on thursdays.

You do have your MWF Calculus class starting on the 24th and your TuTh classes on the 23rd.

When in doubt, just go unless you received an email saying otherwise!

Whatever you do, just don’t go to DISCUSSION SECTION on Friday.

That is the ultimate stamp of FRESHMAN. It’s ridiculous.

I’m assuming that’s the same for going into lab the first day?

Only freshman and insecure sophomores go to discussion or lab before a lecture.

lol

I have a discussion for math 54 on Friday morning and a lecture for math 54 in the afternoon. Should I not go the the morning lecture?

Um, I remember there was definitely discussion session before lecture when I took Math 53.

Some classes do have mandatory discussion before lecture start . If you’re unsure e-mail you professor or GSI about it. I know for Econ 1 this semester the professor said that there is discussion before lecture starts.

Only people who want to make sure they don’t get dropped from their classes go to discussion on the first day.

@GoBears2013

Exactly!

A lot of science classes require you to go to lab the first day, even if it’s before lecture. You’ll get dropped if you don’t. My math classes always had section before lecture as well.

I don’t even get why classes start on Thursday… Is it really that hard to give us two more days of summer?

think positively, you get two more days of education.

You get Monday off :)! They just don’t want to pressure the freshmen so 2 days of class and a 3-day weekend :D!

^Are you talking about Labor day?

^Yup. I think I got the date wrong, if not woops!

^haha yeah it’s the week after the first day of school, not that immediate weekend (:
