Instructor Consent

If I e-mail a professor asking for consent to be added to the class, how likely is it that I will be added? In other words, what reason would there be for him to not give his consent?

Depends on the professor, the class, and what preparation you have. If you’re asking to get into graduate real analysis having completed only 31A, no you won’t get in. If you’re trying to get into graduate probability theory having completed 170AB, 131AB but not 131C, you probably will get in.

I don’t think this class requires any preparation, I know a first year that took it. I guess I’m just wondering when to expect a response and what the odds of getting in are because it’s hard planning the rest of my schedule not knowing whether I can take this class or not.

Soooo…how long does it normally take to hear back from the professor?

Every time I e-mailed, it was less than 24 hours until they asked what my qualifications for the class were.

I e-mailed him on Friday, still have not heard back, and no one is enrolled in the class yet. So. frustrated.
