Interested in a flagship? table compares SEC, BIG 10, ACC, PAC-12, BIG 12 schools

I noticed these tables just recently. I checked the sources as well, they're all good. If you click on the averages you will be redirected to the table for that conference. For those of you interested in flagship football schools, this is a very nifty table comparing some of the academic measures such as endowment, research award, 6-year graduation rate, ranking, freshman retention rate and average SAT score.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_10_Conference#University_rankings_and_academic_measures%5B/url%5D">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_10_Conference#University_rankings_and_academic_measures</a></p>

This might help some of you learn about campus environment at different schools. Remember, this is just ONE tool. Be sure to research your college choice. :)

Good luck applicants!

Its been done before, but websites better than Wiki.
[U.S</a>. News Rankings of Top Six Football Conferences : Outkick The Coverage](http://outkickthecoverage.com/us-news-rankings-of-top-six-football-conferences.php)

The UIUC SAT number appears to be too high.
By adding the midpoint of the CR range to the midpoint of the M range cited in the current CDS, it should be 1350 (not 1440).

Not to mention most instate students for UIUC take ACT so that mostly reps the OOS engineering dominated group.
Also many other errors- UWis’s 1st yr retention rate is about 95%.Not 83%.

^Nah, even with that, UIUC’s number still doesn’t make sense. I think UIUC submitted the wrong number.

Informative, you link only listed USN college ranking, hence the least informative. Not to mention the addition of Louisville is going to drag down ACC’s average a little. ACC is poor in research and world rankings.

[University of Illinois: Student Enrollment Reports](<a href=“Student Enrollment”>Student Enrollment)

The midpoint of the 25th and 75th percentile is 1350. So the average is somewhere near there.

And that’s all that matters. ;-)

^^^^Agreed! ;-)

How is the ACC poor in research and world rankings? Pitt, UNC, UVA, Georgia Tech, and Duke are all world class universities. They compare well to Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State.

^That’s only 5 out of 14 schools and UVA and Pitt are more comparable to Purdue/Michigan State. The 6th through 14th in the ACC are ranked either fairly low or unranked in world rankings. Also, Ohio State and Minn are ahead of UVA/Pitt.

Numbers have been double checked and corrected

Is anyone else surprised to see just how far head even the “dumb” schools are relative to the national average? Many in the upper-middle class or affluent groups seem to think Alabama is filled with morons.

Well, it’s sorta true :P

Still, football schools do quite well compared to the average. I’m, for one, impressed.

bumping up this post

Sam Lee, UVA is much better than Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Minnesota. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Here is an updated ranking (2013) with the new affiliations for the schools that moved conferences.

NCAA Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards

The NCAA annually honors teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10% of all squads in each sport.

The twenty-five football teams that cracked the top 10% in the most recent year for which there is data (2011/2012) are:

Yale, Wofford, Penn, Dayton, Princeton, Lafayette, Harvard, Davidson, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ohio State, Stanford, Rutgers, Rice, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Duke, Clemson, Boston College, Boise State, and that football factory known as The University of Alabama.

I don’t buy the argument that a course is the same everywhere (so schools don’t matter) but I also don’t buy the argument that highly selective schools are the only place a student can get a high quality education (or even they are where every student would have the best experience). Personally, I’d guess that a excellent student probably has 150-200 research university and LAC options that would be fine choices for them … and most flagships easily are in that good set of options.

I don’t buy the argument that a course is the same everywhere

true…but I don’t buy the argument that the same course is the SAME at the SAME univ…when sections are taught by different profs. There’s a reason why kids resort to RMP websites…they know that some profs are bad, some expect too much, some give too hard of tests, some give too much homework, some don’t cover the material…all on the same campus.

Umm mom, you do realize the data is for all students - not just the football team…

23mhead,
