Hey! I got acceptance from Cornell’s CAS and my major is Economics. However, I also have a strong interest in Mechanical Engineering and would like to decide between the two majors at the end of my first year after taking the introductory courses of both the colleges. I would like to know how difficult it is to transfer from CAS to COE and if I can take the introductory courses of COE while I am in CAS. Thank you very much.
Congratulations and yes you can. As long as you take the required courses for COE and maintain the required GPA (around 2.7 -2.8, I think it varies on which engineering major), it’s doable. There are a few classes that a CAS freshman can not take (chem 2080 is one, but they say they accept 2070) and I believe also one of the intro engineering classes.
