***INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION PROCESS**

Hello. I had a question regarding how colleges choose international students. On mostly every college website you will find advertising on how they have students from over BLANK number of countries. Is there a certain quota they have to fill from each country? Are students from countries like India and China at disadvantage? I am going to be applying as an international student from Mexico, how does this place me? I know financial aid plays a huge role but is origin also a big role?

There is no quota per country, but some colleges will limit the total internationals in a given class. Internationals will compete as a group. No college will pick an unqualified applicant just to say they have someone from Gabon.

That said, applicants from overrepresented countries (e.g. China, India, S. Korea) will have to work even harder to get in. For schools that are need-aware, FA need does come into play.

Generally, colleges would like to admit at least one person from each country. Origin plays some role but not when you are asking for lots of aid–then you have to be very, very qualified first, Mexican second.
