International/American Citizen Woes

I'm an American citizen originally born in NJ but my family moved to South American 2 years ago, I was scheduled to graduate June of 2011 as a senior from my high school but when I moved I was placed into a school that is based around the British schooling system. I have no idea the tips/steps and procedures i have to take now that i want to apply to a college in NJ seeing how I do not need to apply for a student visa but I need financial aid and scholarships but don't have proof of residence. I do however have my bestfriend's family who are trying to help me out in anyway they can yet they are just as clueless as I am. Can someone please help ! ASAP

What proof of residence do you need? When you apply, you’ll say (correctly) that you’re an American citizen who happens to live overseas. As far as FA goes, you should speak directly to the colleges – as they can direct you to what documentation you might require – especially those that will make you eligible for more FA avenues.

Thanks so much for your advice. The proof of residence I mentioned earlier was in reguards to applying for in state tuition. Im gonna be on my own and have no idea how I’ll be able to pay for college.
