My application is still under review. Probably won’t hear back until March because I applied through regular decision.

For my general essay they give you a list of questions on Common App, but the one I answered was about an experience that affected me or my perspective in some way. So I talked about how moving from Hong Kong to Shanghai at the age of 12 helped me realise the importance of a global perspective and how to stay positive in the face of a challenge.

As far as more advice, I would say if you have questions, call up the university. Usually they are very friendly and helpful. And, if you sign up on Gmail, you can call the US for free on it (for now!) Also, calling them will put you on their radar, and show that you care about your application and you’re being proactive. Be sure to explain that you’re wanting to apply for 2012 Even after looking through their website I was unable to find a number for the office of admissions, so call up Chapman outright and ask to be transferred to the office of admissions They’re very friendly and helpful.

I would just say again I think taking the SAT IIs as well as the SATs might be very helpful for you, but the SATs should be your number one priority at the moment. It’s easy enough to study for in a month but you have plenty of time. Do a little bit a day instead of hours and hours once a week. The SAT is only testing how well you take the SAT so knowing how the questions work and getting used to it will really help you.

Another piece of advice: do your research. Look at the websites, find out what you need to do, when you need to do it by, and how to hand it in. There’s a lot to be done but it’s definitely doable. :)

Good luck! :D

No offense taken, Warehouse. Being in the higher end of their SAT range of middle-50 percent of students is a good place to be for starters, but like flippy pointed out, they do take the holistic approach. Every applicant is unique and brings unique experiences to the school - it shows in the application through your written statements, essays, teacher recommendations, ECs. So that’s why I believe in doing what one loves to do for EC and listing them in the app. Caution - most schools like to see passion for SOME things, not everything under the sun, so being spread too thin across a myriad of activities does not impress.

@flippy : I really hope you get in, you’re a great person and hopefully you’ll shine at the Uni. Thanks for the advice, I think I am pretty set for now but if I need anymore questions answered; I will agitate you again, haha.

Similar to your story, I was planning to write about my childhood move from Jamaica to London and how my creativity developed. I have also considered taking the SAT II and plan to after I take the SAT’s.

@bigmamabear : Thanks for the reply, big. I am happy you and flippy pointed it out for me, I think I have a very good chance with my current individuality – hopefully. Also, I normally take only take on EC that involves anything business, creative and both combined. But sometimes I like to do things out of the box so I can bring something new into the “box”. But thank you for pointing that out and I hope you have a great time at the College, please tell me how it is when you get there.

Aw, that’s so sweet Warehouseathome, thanks! Don’t hesitate to message me again if you have any questions. I really hope you get to Chapman too - the fact that you’re asking these questions early show how much you care. Best of luck and let me know how it goes! :)

Haha, thanks. After hours of doing researching and going through the Common Application I think I know what to do when the applying time comes. But when does that time come? Is it like the UK – they ask for applicants after September?

If you’re applying Early Decision I’d say start thinking about your application in late August. If you’re applying Regular Decision you can probably start applying by September. I guess it’s just when Common Application is up and running. :)

Thanks again, flippy. I’ll probably start a draft application by June (after I take the SATs) and see how it goes. If your not too busy during that time, think you could help me out with it? Probably give me tips, view the application and tell me what I did wrong.

That’s if your not busy.

Also, whats the actual tuition price? I keep seeing 36k on websites but it says $18,750 on Chapman’s official website.

Hey WarehouseatHome, I’d be happy to help out but I might be getting ready to go back home. However, send me a message when the time comes and I’ll see what I can do!

Yeah that because it’s 36k per year, but 18k per semester (there are two semesters in a year in America as opposed to 3 terms in the UK).

Thanks again, flippy. What’s time do you recommend I apply? The months are flying pass and I need to prepare everything, I would also need to visit my secondary school and get them to play their part in the application.

Or do I have to use my current school? My current school is a public college (not University) so everything isn’t really “student-friendly” because of the vast numbers of students. I haven’t even spoke to the head teacher, counselor, advisor or anyone else.

Hi Warehouseathome, I was speaking to some of my English friends today and I suddenly realised - when you said you took your SATs in Year 9, do you mean your “sats” and not S. A. T.? Those are two completely different exams so it might mean you never took the American S.A.T.s to begin with. Just a thought because I thought it was strange that you took American S.A.T.s so early. Then I remembered that some of my English friends took “sats” in Year 9 but they were pronounced “sats” not S. A. T.

You should use your current school as they are interested in your senior years (Year 12 and Year 13) as far as I’m aware. But you will probably also need transcripts for Year 10 and 11 (when you were taking your IGCSEs.) Call up Chapman and see which one they want.

Try and apply by December if you want regular decision. The deadline this year was January 19th so it might be similar for next year.

When does the EA (Early Decision) commence? I want to apply for EA and see what they say, if I get denied I guess I can always apply again for regular decision?

I am really excited, already started filling out some of my application. I just want this to go perfect and hopefully get a scholarship and a spot. If you dont mind me asking, what course did you apply for flippy?
