***international applicants to Brown PLME? / chance me***

I’m applying this year, even though only 2% of the students at Alpert is international. Are there any success stories of internationals getting into PLME? Do you know out of the 100 they offer admission to and 50 they actually matriculate, how many of those are international students?

I’m Canadian, by the way.

What kind of stats do I need?

Right now, I have:
-2200 SAT composite
-top 3%
-around 95% average (Canadian schools don’t have GPA)
-medical research mentorship at a well-known hospital
-200+ volunteering at a different hospital
(only listing health/med-related ECs)
-read the recommendation letters today: they were all very good!

Any tips on how to get in and such? Thank you

nobody? :(

Brown is damn competitive. No one can say whether you will get in or not. It is very holistic. IF I were you I would try to be different from the crowd by trying to write unusual essays which conveys my passions sincerely.

But statistics wise you have just the chance to get in! All the BEst

Rainbow, it’s more about getting in that getting into PLME. PLME is like a bonus. I think you have a decent shot of getting in, but PLME is hard to get into for ANYONE; even those who get into HYP are rejected from PLME.

Thanks for the feedback. I know PLME is like a lottery system, but I like how Brown admissions is more holistic than some of the other schools’!

Is it true that you have to first be admitted to Brown, and THEN they’ll send your PLME application to the special PLME admissions officers? If you don’t get into Brown undergrad, does that mean you have 0 chance of getting into PLME? Or, does both apps get looked at separately? thanks

Hi RainbowSprinkles,

It’s true that they first admit you to brown, then they send your PLME application to the PLME people. If you don’t get into Brown, you can’t be a PLME for obvious reasons. I can say that I know very few international PLMEs, but that could just be because the proportion of international students at Brown isn’t that high on its own.

Here are some of the available stats on the current PLME class:
[Brown University: Program in Liberal Medical Education](http://bms.brown.edu/plme/prospective/stats.html)

Oh :frowning: I’ve always thought that Brown undergrad & PLME consider the app separately (although there is an obvious overlap of information from Common App). I guess I was wrong. Can you send a link confirming what you said? Thank you

Looks good…I’ll be vying with you for a spot!
SAT:2210
ACT:34
Volunteered at hospital
in a medical program that goes to medical school for anatomy and physiology

Good luck and hopefully we will both get in!

haha wow we have really similar stats! are you international too?

oh, and justink, were you the person who was verifying your scores? i know someone with a username similar to yours (it might be you or someone else) said they were going to verify their Nov SAT II scores.

RainbowSprinkles–

I don’t have a link confirming this since there’s very little information about the PLME application process online, but I can assure you that this is what happens as I’ve talked to the PLME admissions people. If the Brown admissions office decides to accept you, your entire file gets then sent over to the PLME people where they make their decision. If you’re rejected by the Brown admissions office, then the PLME people don’t bother.

Nah i didn’t take the SAT in november.
But I did in OCT (i think we both did)

this is kind of a late reply, but thanks bruno14 for all the help

justink, how long are your PLME essays?

I’m re-taking a subject test in January lol good thing it won’t be too late.
