Hi there,

Admissions to Ivy league colleges (or any colleges for that matter) are never based on grades alone. The admission officers take many factors into account including ECAs, essays, teacher recommendation, race etc… Looking at your IB package, a 41 is a respectable score and your subjects look demanding. However, many schools nowadays are inflating the IB ‘predicted’ scores and admission officers are well aware of that.
Both your SAT scores are definitely on the low side also.

Sorry to dash your hopes, but I wouldn’t be too hopeful unless you are a recruited athlete, have some amazing talent or if you are a URM.

ECs

What universities are looking for are ‘hooks’ or ‘peaks’. Something you really excel at like winning international karate competitions, or playing soccer for your state.

Your weakness really lies in your EC’s and SAT scores right now. I would consider UPenn a very high reach for you right now. Have you applied already?

Yes I’ve applied to UPenn for ED, Would living in Kazakhstan be a plus? Also, I’m currently 16 years old and will graduate this year, I’ve lived in 4 different countries and know three languages,? Would these factors help?

The IB score is fine, with exception to the SL Maths, as you really should be taking HL for Wharton.

SAT scores, you should really try to get within Penns range:
Reading 660-760
Maths 690-780
Writing 680 -770

Additionally, for ECs ,it’s always quality over quantity.

Oh since you’ve already applied, are you asking for aid?

Kazakhstan… definitely a plus. Your race is also important for US colleges. Being a URM can greatly increase your chances of admissions.

Knowing three languages is also good, provided you are fluent in them and somehow notified the admissions office of this (through the commonapp I think.)

Living in 4 countries may or may not benefit your application at all. The only benefits I can see is if you talked about this in your commonapp essays or your interview. Keep in mind that many affluent international students have lived in multiple countries.

Good luck!

I am applying for Financial Aid… My sister and I are going to University the same year, so my family can’t support us both…

Last time I checked, UPenn is not need blind for international students. Thus applying for financial aid will decrease admission chances.

Thank You all for replying,
no offense, but how reliable is this information? Do I really have no chance? or can I still hope? XD

We are not admission officers so this information would not really be considered reliable per se - but the point JellyDuck makes about aid is true, as it is explicitly stated on Penns webpage.

Additionally, the info about score ranges are also accurate.

If your first language isn’t english, you can get away with a low critical reading and writing score on your SATs. But penn clearly states international aid is very limited. However your IB score looks satisfying. I guess it’s really about your essays!

There’s always a chance! The thing is that you shouldn’t expect an admission as you will probably feel extremely disappointed if you were to be rejected. On that note, not many people can expect to gain admissions into Ivy’s in the first place.

All the best!
