Hey, so I will be a college freshman and I have a question about the Spanish courses I have to take. In high school, I took both AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature and I received a 5 in both. The credit that I received was Spanish 202, 212, 405a and 405b. I looked at the classes I have to take this semester and it says I have to take Spanish 101, 102, 201,211,202,212... i'm guessing i'm exempt from all of them? Would I just start taking my upper division Spanish classes? All that's left for me to do is Spanish 301, 302, 307 and 407. Would i also be exempt from 301. 302 and 307 since I have credit for 405?

Typically, colleges offer a placement exam to see where you should start. If your college offers that, you should probably take it to see where to start. The credit from passing your AP exam isn’t necessarily to say you understand these classes (which you may understand) it’s to say what your college will recognize to go on your transcript. For example, I took the AP German exam and got a 5 like you, and was given credit for German 1001, German 1002, and German 2101 but when i took the placement exam, it put me at German 4200 which meant I could start anyone up to that level but my college would only put German 1001, German 1002, and German 2101 on my transcript even if I exempted German 3100.
