I realize there has already been a couple posts about this on here, but I was still curious about it. Would it be difficult to double major IB with marketing? I also saw someone said the IB program at Temple is fantastic, I may be applying there(except the location is a little sketchy...), so if that person is reading, why is the program so wonderful at Temple?

Most of you probably won't know about this, but in Hong Kong UNiversity, which I am seriously considering, the undergraduate program for IB is 3 years and 201 credits, it sounds pretty intense. Anybody know about the program by any chance?

Erm, please help me, im terrible indecisive about majors right now, i wish i could just pick something and stay focused on it. But anyway, I would appreciate any answer and any info about majoring in International Business.

A double major in two business disciplines probably won't help you much with a job search. Having one or the other, of those two, will probably not strengthen your chances of landing a good position. A couple years of experience is sometimes worth as much as a degree. Also, combining an undergrad marketing degree with an MBA in international business, or an undergrad IB degree with a marketing MBA will be more worth your while. I would suggest getting a degree in what you are most interested in and the work the angle that you care to accent.

" A couple years of experience is sometimes worth as much as a degree." --so is going to business school useless for some majors? what if i did a double major, and than got an MBA in marketing or IB on top of that, would that be alright? sorry for all the noob questions, I just really want to attend Hong Kong University because I would love to live there for 3 years, and i figured if I went there I should go for the IB degree. and then I would probably come back to the US to get an MBA in something.

Marketing and Ibanking simply aren't all that related. This just shows that you are indecisive and don't know what you want to do.

An MBA could be beneficial to someone of any undergrad major. You really shouldn't be thinking of an MBA in that light. You should be thinking: "Given my career, would an MBA be useful for me?" That is impossible for you to answer now since you do not have a career but you will understand better when the time is right. Also, some careers lend themselves more to getting an MBA, while others do not.

lol, i didnt realize it stood for ibanking, i dont even know what ibanking is...yeah i just want to learn more about both. but you are saying then that double majoring is basically pointless, i should just pick one? i was just worried about int. business as my primary major since people are saying it's so broad.

I am going to double major in IB and Marketing and Minor in Spanish and people have praised me for it... they say that its a perfect combo and will land you top jobs... because business is becoming global, so you need IB. Corporations are spending more money than ever on advertisements, so u need marketing. and haveing an extra language will only open doors for you.... im telling you, go for it. That is where the $$$$$$$ is at...

Then go to Hong Kong and major in Marketing. Personally, I don't see what International Business will teach you that you won't a) learn in a Marketing program, b) learn from your life experience going to school in a foreign environment, and c) won't learn from on the job training once you graduate. If you go to school in Hong Kong, in marketing, and then come to work in the states you will have no problem landing a job that has an international aspect to it. Thus, like VictorWega, I just don't see the need. Granted, you can still do it, but it will merely be for education sake.

Having an actualy extra degree in IB will give you an advantage over many people. Plus alot marketing and IB classes overlap, so it's pretty easy to do the Double Major Benchot

thanks everyone. djperez, whats ur top choice? just wondering. Yeah actually thats exactly what i wanted to do double major IB and marketing, but minor in something more fun for me like lit/philosophy/math

I think its more important to do Marketing undergraduate. International Business is good, but it requires work experience to be valuable. I would go for:

Major: Marketing, International Business
Minor: Language ( either english spanish or chinese)

MBA: International Business

Guarantee you, you will be set for life if you do that @ top schools....

I've heard a lot of talk on this thread but not much substance. People should back up there post with their experiences or qualifications.

I went to a medicore state school and got a B.A. in International Studies (specializing in International Business + Economics). With it, I landed a job as an International Trade Consultant with one of the Big 4 accounting firms. Any B.A. is a tool (i.e. it isn't about having hanging on your belt...it is about how you use it).
