International Development Studies/foreign languages

Hi everyone. I'm a senior from Chicago (languishing now in the suburbs) who's going to McGill next year. I'm planning on majoring on International Development Studies and filling in the rest of my classes with foreign languages; as a general question, if anyone here is familiar with either of those programs, how did you like them? Are they challenging, well-taught, etc?

I'd also like to know what spending a year abroad is like. How difficult is it to get the administration to approve a semester at a school they don't have an existing exchange deal with?

if you're in IDS getting a semester abroad will most likely be very easy as its what they emphasize.

Foreign Languages are intense and quite challenging at McGill- I took three year of French and nearly all three years of those classes were covered in one year here... my friends say the same for every other language too.
IDS is one of the most popular programs in Arts- its demanding, but a good program. g'luck
