International Interview

I emailed the EC that MyMIT listed, but he did not reply back. So after two weeks I decided to email him again. But when I opened MyMIT, it said that my interview had been waived because there were no interviews available in my area. Should I email interview@mit.edu to ask them if there are any interviews available in other parts of Holland or perhaps Belgium. I don't mind sitting in the train for a few hours just for the interview. I would love to have an interview because I have never actually met anyone who has studied in the US, let alone MIT.

You can (and should!) certainly email and ask, but it may be that there really isn’t anybody available to interview you.

Yes, it does seem odd. The EC directory lists 3 ECs in the Netherlands and 7 in Belgium, so I am surprised that your interview was waived, but it can happen. It regularly occurs that an interviewer has to miss out for a year. Either there is a conflict of interest (for example, none of us can interview in any year when we have a child applying to university (whether or no they are applying to MIT), Or I have one EC in my region who gave birth last week, and is quite reasonably taking the year off. Bu there is, for example, only a single EC in Utrecht. If that EC cannot interview this year, then voila, a bunch of potential waivers for the Utrecht applications that year.

I emailed the interview office, and within ten minutes I got a reply that another EC had been assigned. I have already emailed my new EC and hope to have the interview soon.
Thank you for your help.
