International/Japanese/Alaskan population

I'm curious as to the demographics at UWashington.

Because of its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, is there a large population of native Japanese students?

What about international student population in general, maybe Russian, Pacific Island, or other nationalities?

Are there many students from Alaska? Canada?

What about the Native American population?

This is silly, but just from watching Mariners games on TV, I see ads in Japanese/Chinese, and I'm curious as to whether there is a large international population in the city, on campus as well.

For instance, if you go to Texas, there are a large number of Mexicans just because of the proximity of Texas to the Mexican border.

Could Seattle/UWashington be a place for an American to get a taste of overseas culture?

Would this be a good college to learn Japanese, Russian, Chinese, especially if you're interested in working overseas at some point in your career?

Ummm. There is not a lot compared to like Chinese or Korean students, but there is a decent Japanese student population. It depends on your classes, but the school in general is not very diverse.

It’s good in the sense that there are a lot of languages to choose from.

asians at UW are mostly chinese & korean
if you’re looking for japanese students, there are a lot of japanese exchange students at Western Washington

it really depends on where you’re from, seattle is more diverse compared to usual suburbs because it’s a city but it’s not as diverse as other bigger cities like those in CA.
