Lol@banedon. We weren't playing bingo. 'Bingo' is a Scrabble term for a word you can make out of all the seven letters on your tile rack, such as 'EEVOFAT'='FOVEATE'.

Anyhoo, who says we can't do both together? Let's see...

@maxy: Ahhhhhhhhh.... thou hast a penchant for word games, or perfectionism, if you go so far as to use a word builder to find out the bingo. You're forgiven.

I got to Elmira with full scholarship. Will try to transfer to my colleges. Regiving SAT for that. Rejected from all and waitlisted by Middlebury, deffered by Bates.

just to give everyone a quick notice: 13 rejetions, 2 waitlistings[Carleton and Colby], 99.99% will be attending the Math dept at the univ of Bucharest.
don't really think I'll be applying next year too, but most probably will be applying for graduate school, so there still might be a chance to encounter some of you:)
i'll try to come by CC from time to time, but as most ppl are doing I'm little by little disappearing...much stuff to do for 12th grade graduation, entrance exam at bucharest and so on....
well..cheers! :)

try transferring to your dream colleges. I am trying to tranfer to Harvard, yale, UPenn, cornell, gettysburg, Lafayette, northwestern,MIT, Brown. Princeton does not take transfers. But first got to finish the freshman year in Elmira.

can't trensfer cause I don't have the money. only possibility would be to apply again for freshman year. still undecided. maybe after summer break i'll have clearer thoughts. for the moment i'm quite caught up in so many things that i just don't have the time to really think abt it.

Why am I just joining this forum?? U guys could so have helped me deal with my numerous rejections. Well, just so that everything is out there, this is the break down.
Accepted: Amherst, Middlebury, Oberlin, Bennington
Waitlisted: Vassar, Princeton, Wesleyan
Rejected: Harvard, Yale (What the hell did I do wrong. I had such hopes) (tear, tear)

Well, now I need some advice. Which schools do you guys think is better Amherst or Princeton. I really like Amherst but I can't just disregard the prestige that goes with a name like Princeton. Any suggestions? Oh, and is any one going to Amherst?

switch, I think your choice is pretty simple...you were waitlisted from Princeton, so Amherst it is? If eventually Princeton kicks in with an offer of admission, then you'll be able to go there, which I personally would choose, but right now Amherst is the best deal you've got. Would you mind sharing your stats? You have a VERY impressive list of admissions/waitlists.

I agree with Maxy; unless Princeton offers you a spot off the waitlist, you'll be enrollin' at Amherst. But, hey, it's a good school! I don't recall any international being accepted at Amherst, though my memory is apparently shot to pieces. But I do know one int'l CC-er who was accepted to Middlebury (and Colgate) and is going to be a Middlebury Panther. :D

Ah! I'll kill to go Amherst! No, reject Amherst and tell Princeton you got into Amherst but you have rejected it to pledge loyalty to Princeton!

So that poor international waitlistees like me have a chance!

Erm, sorry. I'm not serious, of course (though I really wouldn't mind if you chose Middlebury instead of Amherst haha). Maxy and Izzy are right. Accept the place at Amherst, and should you get off Princeton's waiting list (which I hope you do), go to Princeton. Don't worry about the ethics stuff, this is PERFECTLY legal. Well, at most you lose your deposit at Amherst - if any.

Thank you all for your advice. I knew that I would have to secure my place at Amherst pending princeton's reply but my problem was as woebegone said: the ethics. Apart from that, aren't the two schools comparable? At least in terms of the quality. I was also wondering which school had a better faculty of science.

Maxy, my stats are not the best but here they are anyway:
SAT I:1450/1600
SAT II: Biology/M 770, Physics 760, Chemistry 800, Math I 780, Math II 720
WAEC exams: 6A's 3B's
School type: Public
Gender: Male
Hooks: I have no idea. Maybe they exist but I can't quite put my finger on them. Lots of ECs though

Woebegone, good luck with your Amherst admission. I'm sure that those super smart kids that got into Harvard, etc will very willingly give up their places at Amherst. I definitely hope to see you in the fall. Don't give up hope.

thanks switch! but really, don't worry about the ethics. i can't speak for all colleges, but Amherst definitely doesn't mind students backing out after getting off the waitlists at better institutions. Coz on the waitlist letter, they emphasized that we should accept a place elsewhere even though we want to stay on the waitlist...
