Hello,

I'm a rising junior at a high school in a suburb of New York City.I'm really interested in international relations, foreign policy, defense, and national security. I'm hoping to go to a school (Georgetown? though i haven't begun the college process yet) which will prepare me well for a career in one of those subject areas.

Things specific to IR which I've done: This past year I was President of our relatively new Model UN and I will continue to be for the duration of my time at my high school. I also participate in Model Congress (a somewhat similar club) and tend to focus on foreign policy issues. I stay up to date on current events. I will also be attending an IR program at Georgetown over the summer. Also, freshman year, I won a school wide essay contest on human rights.

What can I do to bolster my IR credentials? Are there any programs, internships (I recognize that IR internships are hard to come by for HS students) or other activities which can help me gain experience? I like learning about these issues but I also want to have practical experience which will make me competitive in applying to schools and finding a career.

Thanks a lot!!
