Would it be hard to transfer into the International Affairs program?

I plan on transferring to GWU with 45 credits as a freshman; 15 of these Credits are Business Courses. I am currently an International Business/Finance major.

If I were to switch my major to International Affairs, would it still be possible to do a double major? I may stick with Finance/Econ? and International Relations, or try International Relations and International Business. Eventually, I would like to work as a diplomat going onto grad school for a Masters of Public Policy and International Development. Also is this difficult to do at GWU? Thanks.

Michael - Here’s what I’ve read on the GW website. As a transfer you have to apply to the specific school, e.g. IA you apply to the Elliott School of International Affaits and declare your major in IA. It is possible to “double” major in Business through the College of Arts and Sciences, but it has to be approved.

It would be very important to see how many of your credits transfer and what GW will give you credit for. I think then you’ll know whether to double major or not.

I’d recommend speaking to someone in Admissions or advising about his since it’s going to be very specific to you and I wouldn’t trust my opinion on the matter.

Thank You, I spoke to a student today and the double is very possible and common but is contingent on how many of my credits do transfer. Sophomores are defines as 30+ credits so if all 45 transferred in I would be ahead, but like you said waiting on how many transfer is the big question.
