International Student, Chance at UIUC

I am from India, and want to pursue CS at UIUC. I have got 10 CGPA in Class 10, though my Class 12th percentage is 76%. Will give SAT in December, expecting around 1500+, since I am performing similar in mocks. Subject tests should not be that much of a problem, giving Math Lvl 2 and Phy, Nov 2. As for ECs, well I got selected for RMO, Leader for Science Congress (Regional Level), participate in Google Summer Camp (Didn’t qualify though), 2nd in school (IEO) and some other minor ones, so my ECs are pretty average. I am confident in my essay skills, so i think i could manage that. Does my class 12 percentage hold me back?
Can i get into UIUC?

It is too soon to tell. Test scores are very important to UIUC as well as grades and course rigor, so you’ll have to come back and ask when you’ve got those score reports back.

Some things you should know, though… UIUC does not give any financial aid to international students, so make sure you can afford to be full pay. Also, about a month ago, an admissions rep told my daughter that last year’s acceptance rate to computer science was only 12%. I am not sure if he was referring only to Grainger and the BS degree, but in any case, it is significantly lower than the university’s acceptance rate as a whole (it is like that for CS at many colleges these days). You need to keep that in mind as their CS program is a reach for almost everybody. Make sure you have match schools and apply to backup schools in your own country as well.

I know I have to pay full, its a stretch but I can pay (my parents I mean), so I will think about its feasibility. Yeah, I am applying to some colleges in my country. Also, how much is the acceptance rate for CS+X programs?

I am suspecting that 1500+probably won’t be an impressive score for an international student applying CS major. (I’m in the exact same situation) CS+X is usually safer… but I still applied to CS.
We are about to find out the decisions in 8 days! Nervous…

Hey, @Razor54672 I think US colleges, in general, understand the drop in grades in 11th and 12th grade in CBSE and ICSE, especially if you’re doing PCM because everyone ends up with 90% or above in their boards.
