International Student Financial Aid

So I received a Conditional Admission today, dependent on my TOEFL score which I already have and on a proof of sufficient funding. Which I don't have. I applied for financial aid which I also indicated on my application but it doesn't say anything about it in the e-mail.
Does that mean they aren't willing to give me anything? Or will there be something in the letter I will receive by mail?
I'm really confused at the moment and I'm so excited about my admission if anyone has any similar experience I'd be super glad if you could share it!

Hey. I got accepted too. I’m an American citizen, but I’ve been living overseas for most of my life. But I am not considered as an international student.
Anyway, my myslice “My Financial Aid” didn’t mention anything about financial aid either. I am so confused as well. But if they didn’t want to give us aid, wouldn’t they have told us instead of leaving it blank?
I think I’ll call and ask about it on Monday. But until then, fingers crossed.

Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one because that means there might still be information to come. Could you keep me updated?

You have to send in the proof of funding no matter what. International students aren’t eligible for federal financial aid. You might get some help from Syracuse itself, but nearly all colleges want you to show that you can pay the first year amount if they send you an I-20.

Well yes of course we will have to send a Proof of Funding at some point, but the amount the has to be stated is dependent on the amount of aid we receive.

regardless of aid, you’d have to show the whole 60k, even if you get aid to cover some of it.

On the website:

Are you sure about that? How do you know? What about people who have a really low EPC?

Pretty sure. At least I’m pretty sure it says that on the website. Shoot them an email and find out for sure, never hurts to ask.

Hey. So I called SU this morning and contacted the financial aid office.
I asked the guy I spoke with about my financial aid and told him that I got accepted but haven’t received my financial aid decision yet. He spoke to the counselor and said that I should expect a letter from them about my financial aid in about 2 weeks or so.
So if you are an American citizen and you still haven’t received your financial aid decision, don’t worry about it. Give it a few weeks.
Good luck everyone! :)

Was it definitely only about US citizens? Or can I expect the same procedure for internationals? I already sent the admissions office an email but I expect them to take some time, they reply with an automatic email information that they’re in the process of reviewing applications.

According to the website, international students are NOT eligible for financial aid. Sorry!

Yes, yes, they are!

"Undergraduate International Students

As an international student, you are potentially eligible for two different types of financial aid:

Merit-based scholarships are awarded on the basis of exceptional academic and personal achievement. Selection is made by the Office of Admissions and eligibility is based on a student’s academic credentials. Eligible students will be notified after they are admitted to Syracuse University.

Limited need-based awards are offered to students who are selected by the Office of Admissions and who demonstrate financial need through the College Scholarship Service (CSS) International PROFILE Application."

OK so this is what I just received:

Dear ,

Thank you for writing.*
*
Financial assistance is very limited for international students.* Merit-based scholarships are awarded on the basis of exceptional academic and personal achievement. Selection is made by the Office of Admissions and eligibility is based on a student’s academic credentials. Eligible students will be notified after they are admitted to Syracuse University.* If you are awarded a merit-based scholarship, you will receive notification by the end of next week.
*
Limited need-based awards are offered to students who are selected by the Office of Admissions and who demonstrate financial need through the College Scholarship Service (CSS) International PROFILE Application.* International students who receive a need-based award will be notified in late March.
*
In the meantime, we encourage you to submit proof of financial support in order to be considered for full admission to the University.* You may visit [ Requirements[/url”>http://syr.edu/admissions/undergraduate/applytosu/requirements/international_requirements.html#FR]Requirements ] Requirements[/url”>http://syr.edu/admissions/undergraduate/applytosu/requirements/international_requirements.html#FR]Requirements for information on submitting the required financial support documentation.* Please*be in touch if you have any further questions.

I guess I’ll just have to wait.

lesidols is correct…international students are eligible for any aid that the university want to give them. Well at least this is true for private schools. Private schools can award whatever scholarships they want to whoever they want…they’re just not eligible for FEDERAL financial aid.

but since institutional aid is more competitive most schools will want to see if you can foot the whole bill, in the event that you don’t get any aid.

Just a quick advice to international applicants -
You must send financial supporting documents/TOEFL scores/whatever other condition you must meet - ASAP, because seats CAN be limited. Good luck.

I got a scholarship notification today, anyone else?
I’m so so so relieved!

^
I did too!
