International Student, IB Diploma, Admissions Question

Hey Guys,

This is my first post on CC. I have been following the site for a while now.

I am a Junior at a non-US school and I have taken the IB Standard Physics exam and, as you may or may not know, IB exam scores come out tomorrow. Even though I am a Full Diploma Candidate, I am only applying to colleges in the US, where final IB scores are not heavily taken into consideration in terms of admissions (or even if they are considered at all). I was wondering if, when I apply later this year/early next year, whether my IB Physics Exam score will be requested by colleges when I send my application. I'm not sure whether I HAVE to send it or if I get the choice.

Can anyone who has any experience in college admissions and the IB please help me out? I'm freaking out because I am not the strongest student in Physics but I don't want an exam from a class that I am less than average at hinder my chances of making a top-flight US school.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Hola! I’m an IB student.

If you’re using the Common Application, you are not required to tell colleges your IB scores during the admissions process. There’s a section on the Common App for AP and IB scores, but they’re self-reported, so you can choose which scores to self-report. Since IB Physics SL is on your transcript, though, colleges may wonder why you chose not to report that score…but I doubt they’d ask you for them. Not during the admissions process.

After you’ve been admitted, if you want to get credit or placement from you IB scores, you may have to release all of them—including physics SL–to the colleges.

Hey!

Thank you so much for the answer, it’s exactly what I wanted to hear! I actually did well on my exam (I got a 6, which is surprising) but really, thank you for the answer.
