International Student looking for full ride

@MYOS1634 Ah. Alright thanks.

Don’t worry about it, you can’t do a thing about it. Financial need will be your biggest obstacle - need aware colleges may admit only ONE full ride student…perhaps none. That’s why you applied to all these schools and must keep your fingers crossed that one will have the money.

@Barekk did you do Minerva EA? I’m doing RD. Really wish I’d done EA though. My friend got in today!

I didn’t submit my RD app but somehow i got “Rejecteed”. I think they have mistaken me for someone else. I emailed them and we will see

@Barekk Wow that is awful. Hope they figure it out.

Also, my SAT 2 results are out. I don’t believe it.
690 M. 620 P. I get the physics, but the maths? Christ. I’m doomed. Something is awfully wrong.

@MYOS1634 what do you think I should do about my horrible subject test scores? Those scores just aren’t me. I wish there was a January administration but the next is March.

You may well have just made 4-5 mistakes :frowning: Its really too bad but there’s nothing you can do now. If a college doesn’t want then, don’t send them.

@MYOS1634 What if a school recommends? Should I send then? And should I even bother applying to MIT & Caltech? Already sent my scores there with the free reports.

You already sent the scores. Anyway, those don’t matter MUCH (they do matter, but not in the cut and dry way most people think). You’re from an under-represented continent and you’re not the daughter of a government official, that will be taken into account. In additional information make sure relevant information about your living conditions is noted.
They’ll use context. - they can’t compare your scores to those of kids enrolled in a test prep school they attend for 3 hours each evening.
So, do bother applying, but remember that your odds are low. Work methodically.

My SATS subject tests arent out ah. Took chem and bio , expecting 730+ in both

What colleges did you apply to? @gigichuck

@Barekk I’m not done applying yet. I applied to some colleges with a Dec 1 deadline, Stanford, Wellesley, then Colby, Wesleyan, WUSTL, Grinnell because they have no supplements and it was free for me.

OP so did you end up applying to Duke? Just asking cuz I’m applying to Duke RD and I’m freaking out before clicking the submit button(lol)

@iamsarah Not yet. But I will.

Hey @MYOS1634 I have beeeen wondering, where is the additional in for section on the common app?

@Charleigh18 its in the writing section

Thanks so much @Barekk I’ll be sure to check

Hey guys! I just saw this thread and it is incredibly helpful thanks for all the info. I am an international student also in dire need of a full ride or something to cover a large amount of COA leaving me with about 5,000 to pay. I have an SAT of 1490 an a 3.5 GPA ( I am salutatorian in my class with that GPA so u can imagine how rigorous the courses at my high school were. I graduated in 2016 from high school and had to prolong applying cuz of family medical problems (long story). Do u guys think having been away from school for so long decreases my chances for financial aid?

Your translation of local GPA to 3.5 is unlikely to be correct. If you’re salutatorian you likely have a 3.8+ in US terms. DO NOT try to convert on your transcripts. Rather, indicate what percentage in your school have a score of (5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9+) and how that translates nationally (like: 60% students get a 5 nationally, students in our school with a 5 are likely to end with a 6 after national board exams ie. top 40% nationally. Students with a 7 typically end up with an 8.5, ie., top 10% nationally. Etc.)
Taking a gap year to help family, especiall if family had medical problems, does not decrease your odds as long as you explain it in “additional information”, detailing what you had to do to help your family.
