Thanks so much for the advice and its good to know I shouldn’t worry much about receiving little aid. So the thing is I I don’t think there is a way to convert your scores and see how it is nationally here. Different schools have different ways of grading. Although generally its all out of 100% (I got 90.7 btw) in some schools earning a 95 is as simple as earning a 90 in others and there isn’t a system that fairly recognizes that. The only standard national grading we have is in our national exams which I did well on but those are completely separate from my transcripts. Do you think simply stating my GPA and mentioning that I am class Salutatorian makes it clear that my school is tough or should I go an extra mile and explain what I did to you in the “additional info” of the common app? Thanks so much again
Does anybody know anything about the pre med program at Jacobs University at Bremen ? Like if someone does that can they apply to medical schools in canada us and else where? Or do they not recognize the university as a proper uni at all?
@Barekk IMO an international student trying to get into medical school in the US is walking on dangerous ground, no matter the undergrad school.
To ED 2 or not to ED 2?
I’m considering Uchicago. But I don’t know if I want to give up my shot at other schools. Any advice?
ED2 Chicago if you’re comfortable with the fit (read up everywhere, ask questions on the UChicago forum). You need all the help you can get due to financial need.
You must STILL apply to other schools though as ED isn’t a magic card
Chicago is amazing with fin aid , once you get in ofc. I wouldn’t apply ED2 anyway since the fin aid youre asking for is too huge and chicago is need aware
Why not apply ED2 asking for huge aid with UChicago being need aware? What’s the downside if it’s the number one choice?
Dont think its his/her first choice. And needing alot of aid from a need aware school lowers your chance of getting in by a quite large margin
However the need blind/meet need schools don’t have ED2.
“And needing alot of aid from a need aware school lowers your chance of getting in by a quite large margin.”
This should make no difference to the applicant if their qualifications are appropriate.
^“need aware” for internationals means that qualifications don’t matter, once a threshold has been reached, what matters is level of aid needed.
Yeah he/she got good grades and i think good essays , but her/his aid is bringing her/him down so yeah it will play a role. If someone else who needs less money has similar stats or qualifications to a certain degree , colleges might just aswell accept them instead. Unless you can really make a college want you , aid will bring you down
Okay wow I just heard that Yale’s unofficial policy is to not accept international students under 17.
Damn that sucks, harvard doesn’t have anything like that tho as far as i know
@MYOS1634 Quite so, but the question facing the applicant is apply or not apply, not knowing about threshold. Need-aware schools should not be avoided simply because they’re need aware.
Is ED that much of a boost for international students? I mean, if an applicant has the right combination of essays and stats, then would it really matter which round?
ED helps at meet need/needblind colleges.
So it would really help at Uchicago? I’m just really confused right now. Uchicago is like my third or fourth choice and I don’t know if I want to give up the teeny tiny possibility of getting into one of the others.
Not sure since uchic is need aware even if it is meet need.
Oh. Okay. Thanks.
