I am a student from India. I completed my 12th in 2014-2015 session but got 72% marks only (about 2.9-3.1 gpa) . Actually I am not a dull student but got into bad company since 9th, so, i don’t have a really good academic background. So, i decided to repeat my 12th grade and this year , i am sure i will get above 93% (4.0 gpa is at 84%) . I need a full ride to a good college in USA (top 200 ranks). So, please suggest me what kind of sat/act score i need and what other extra things should i do. Also, tell if i can still apply to ivys. I mean whether i got any chance in ivys or mit.
You can easily search average SAT/ACT scores (as well as avg. subject test scores) of admitted applicants for these universities online. It’s not really my position to tell you what to do to get admitted (I mean, I can tell you what I did in HS but that’s about it) beyond the absolute requirements. CC has a lot of sub-forums corresponding to different unis and they often have threads where applicants posted whether they got accepted/rejected as well as their stats.
I’m not familiar with the FA of most universities, but this seems tough to get unless you are one of the best in India and they really want you.
There are hundreds of kids applying from India with 90%+ grades throughout their secondary education.
Don’t waste your time on Ivy League schools - look for more realistic options, and schools which offer good FA to internationals.
I am not saying i want ivy leagues only…all i am saying is suggest me good colleges which will give me full ride. And also , how much will my repeating 12 affect my admissions
I think repeating a grade is an automatic rejection (especially for academic purposes) from any Ivy. Also, international students rarely get financial aid at top-tier schools, so be wary.
So basically, no state universities.
If US students were allowed do-overs, don’t you think they would try that?
Only a handful of schools give full rides and you already don’t have the stats to get into those.
You are a need-based student and the problem with that is that the universities give you what THEY THINK you need, not what you really need.
Can anyone suggest me anything …please…i m in a dilemma here …just give me some way…to any college…
Without your SAT/ACT results, no one can give you more specific advice.
@vishal4usa As CheddarcheeseMN said, you should take either the SAT or ACT (as well as the required subject tests, if any) tests. MIT requires a math and a science subject test, for example.
For Ivies and really selective schools, the SAT, while important, doesn’t seem to “help” a qualified applicant as much as to weed out unqualified applicants. For example, if you scored 1500/2400 on your SAT and you applied to the Ivies or MIT, you’ll almost certainly be rejected.
You’ll also want to see which universities you can afford. State universities are funded by taxpayer dollars from state residents, meaning that tuition for you and out-of-state residents can be very expensive. Another option is to do your undergrad in India.
@MITer94 is absolutely correct.
Why not do undergrad in India? Seems like the perfect solution!
There isn’t any way you will get in to a university that will fund you with your stats.
You might get in somewhere if you could afford full fees, but you don’t have that, so your best option is to attend school in India.
