final report

I’am from india and i passed out my 12th in 2014 and want to apply for us universities. I have certificates. I have my SAT and SAT subject test exams in octuber and November so i want to know is there any chances to get admitted in good ivy colleges. My 12th percentage is ver low (60%). Please reply anyone

Admission to the top US colleges for international students is extremely competitive. Only the topmost students are even considered – and then, many of them are ultimately rejected. Your 60% performance during one of your most crucial years would say you’re not a viable applicant for top US colleges. There are over 3000 US colleges. If you can afford it and it means a great deal for you to attain a US bachelors, I suggest you search more broadly. There are forums here on CC of International applicants as well as for Indian applicants.

However “Ivy” type schools should not be on your search list, I’m sorry to say. Good luck.

@Varsri you will pretty much need to be among the best few students in India to be considered a competitive candidate. Plus, tuition and room+board in many places in the Northeast is quite expensive, so you need a way to cover the costs.

What if i perform well in SATs and good letter of recommendation and essays.I has participated in National olympiad, school games.

Will that make you one of the handful of top students in India? That might not even make you one of the top students in your school.

We’re talking about perfect to near perfect SATs and perfect or near perfect GPA – and then top rec letters and national contest winners.

So as a transfer student do i stand a chance?

Ivy’s are kinda like a lottery. Even the best best students don’t know their chances. The US has many great schools, Ivies are not the only schools that will lead you towards success.

I don’t mean to disappoint but the your chances of getting into a reputed US college seems very slim. I suggest you finish your graduation in India with flying colors and then apply for post grad courses in US colleges. All the best!

@Varsri those schools usually accept very few transfers, and the percentage of transfer applicants getting in is often less than the freshman admit rate. You should expand your search, or do your undergraduate studies in India, and if you have a stellar record, consider applying to Ivies or other places for graduate school.
