International student SEVIS reinstatement

Hey guys,

Recently my SEVIS record was terminated as I got dismissed from my University (2 months ago). However, I have been accepted to another college and they are sending me the new I-20 right now. I am out of the United States as my former DSO told me to leave if I could not find a school within 15 days or something. I just want to ask what is the process of SEVIS reinstatement? Do I have to re-apply for a new VISA stamp at the embassy or the process is just me paying the SEVIS fee again and mailing my documents?

Thanks!

If you are outside of the US and you got a new I-20 (which means a new SEVIS record has already been opened for you), it would be faster and easier to apply for a new student visa.

Reinstatement can be a lengthy process and USCIS recommends that students who are crunched for time apply for a new student visa instead. The application for reinstatement also carries a $370 filing fee, so it wouldn’t be cheaper than applying for a new student visa either.

The DSO at your new school can walk you through your options.
