I’m taking full ib diploma now, and my courses are:
HL English
HL History
HL Math
HL Art
SL Physics
SL French
Ceramics (elective)
So I was wondering if it would be bad for me that my HLs are in very different areas (these are really the areas I like) and since I am still unclear about my major, if that might look bad… I still have time to change it and I took Hl math because since I’m from Brazil (where we study everything really fast) I already learned most of SL math (everything but calculus) and did really well. I also really like math.
Btw I am shooting for the ivies
Pretty much everybody’s HL’s will be in different areas. It’s fine.
The IB is designed to make students take classes in a variety of different areas. The only combinations I can think of that would display a very clear focus would be a “science” program of two HL sciences (usually bio/chem or chem/physics) and HL math, or a “translator” pack of three languages at HL. With the exception of languages, there is no category of subjects that you can take 3 HL subjects from with a standard diploma (if you want to add a 7th subject, outside of your diploma, things will be a bit different).
