International student

Hi I am an international student from mauritius who just graduated high school and i was wondering about my chances of admission in a US college. I have a combined SAT score of 2050 and ill probably take math lvl2 and chem as sat subjects. My country's educational system is based on the british one so we do not have GPA nor rank but we do the Cambridge 'O' and 'A' Levels.

For O level: I got grade 'A*' in maths, english language, french, chem, physics and Grade 'A' in additional maths, biology and computer science.
For 'A' level i got grade A for maths, chem and physics as well as grade 'A' for general paper and french at AS level

As for extracurricular Ive been doing a bit of sports that i like (swimming and badminton) for the last 4 years and some literary activities (mainly french based): I once represented my country in the Indian ocean inter island french dictation competition and last year ive obtained the 1st prize in a french dissertation competition on a national basis which was awarded by a french organisation promoting the language in my country after a 2-year course with the said organisation. Unfortunately i have not done any community work (there are not many opportunities for that here but thats not an excuse, i know)

So what kind of colleges do you think i can apply to? (ah yes sry i should have mentioned that earlier but ill need huge financial aid as though we live comfortably here my family does not have 30k-50k to spare a year for my college education and i know that the financial factor is considered for international students in many colleges).

Thanks in advance for your help guys! cheers...

no suggestions anyone?

Your SAT score is good but not at the top tier school level. Your GCE exams are great though. You probably want to practice SAT a little more and give it another trial. Cost of attenance for internationals could be $30-$65k per year. If your family cannot afford $30k a year, you will need some need based aids. Unfortunately, schools that provide such kind of aids are super competitive and your score is not at that level yet. Merit aid opportunity for international at your level would be very limited too. University of Minnesota at Twin Citeiwould have a CoA just above $30k per year and your score is at their upper mid 50 or higher for many programs.

@billcsho Thanks for commenting! ok ill practice some more and give the SAT another go…ya from what i learnt, those giving aid to int. students are super super competitive. The only thing that has me clinging onto hope is that i have friends who got full rides to some of them (stanford, princeton, cornell and 1 presently in MIT) but i guess they were in another league lol
