International Students' Move-Out Day

That's right, Move-Out... I would like to know, from any international sophomore and above, what happens the day after university ends (which this year happens to fall on December 20). Do we have to take all our stuff out of the residence halls, or do we leave most of them there when the hall is under lock and key? How does moving out for the Christmas vacations normally occur?

Do we go home or can we stay anywhere nearby? I ask this because, being an international student from a low-income family with a full scholarship, it's gonna take quite some funding to go home for Christmas (not that I don't want to - I hate financial constraints) and come back a mere fortnight later on January 8 2007. Do many people stay at Cal for Christmas, and if so, where?

Urgent reply, please. Thank ye.

I think int'l students are allowed to stay through winter break at the International House, so that might be an option, or it might indicate that other dorms would also allow you to stay through winter break. Also, there are host families that could take you in.

The campus and southside become ghost towns. Where are you from jean?

Sometimes your firends will invite you to spend a week at their California homes for the holidays, it's a great way to learn about American culture.

Heh.. that sounds cool, the bit about being invited to spend a week at California homes.

I'm from Oman, by the way - that's in the Middle East... Nice to meet a Cal Alum extends hand. Has Unit 1 - Freeborn Hall ever had a history of allowing students to stay through winter break?

shakes hand

welcome to Cal, jean!

feels warm I'm loving Cal even more!
