I’m an International Student and finished my first year of studying in Canada in May. You get your name on the Dean’s list of my college if you have at least a 3.6 GPA. I don’t know much about GPA (never bothered reading what it is haha) but I did get an A+ in all of my courses…so shouldn’t I be on the Dean’s list? Well I probably am, they don’t publish it online but in the college, and I’m currently home over the summer, so I can’t see the Dean’s list. However, they also wrote that they will send a letter, signed by the Dean, to each student on the Dean’s list…They do have my European address:/. I now wonder if International Students are generally excluded from the Dean’s list for some reasons, or if Universities don’t send these letters to other continents? Has anyone, especially International Students, had similar experiences? Do you think they forget to send me a letter or is it common not to send it to International Students:(? It’s kind of important to me because now my parents are probably disappointed and think I’m not on the Dean’s list…
NO they are not. Your international status does not matter.
It has to be some kind of mishap, but it’s not really important in term of your future prospects. Don’t worry
Be patient. In my experience, Dean’s List letters often don’t get sent until well after the end of the semester, in some cases quite long after. They just aren’t a big priority for the school because students are well aware of whether they qualify or not as soon as they have their grades, and the piece of paper isn’t terribly meaningful. Note that Dean’s List notations will appear on your transcripts. If you received all A+'s in your courses, your parents should be thrilled regardless of the formal notice about Dean’s List. (I didn’t even know any college awarded A+ as a grade–congratulations!)
