I have asked these questions to HMC, but didn't receive any specific answers. Hopefully someone here can answer them. The questions are- How many international students get financial aid every year? Can international students get support for the full cost of attendance?

There are only six colleges in the US that I know of that promise to meet full need for international students: Amherst, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT Princeton, and Yale (there might be a few more, but Mudd is not on that list).

Here are a couple of links from the Mudd website:

<a href=“International Applicants | Harvey Mudd College”>https://www.hmc.edu/admission/apply/international-applicants/financial-aid-for-international-students/

You should take them at their word. When they say, “Competition for funding is high. We are able to meet 100 percent of a family’s demonstrated need for only a handful of international students,” I would assume they mean it…

I just reviewed the Common Data Set (you can Google for it) for Mudd. They indicated that in 2013-14, they gave need or merit aid to 16 international students (across the whole student body, so I assume that is about 4/year). The average dollar amount was $35,000 (not really close to a full ride, covers a little over half the cost). This is out of a total of 92 international students across the whole student body. So I think the answer to your question is that about 17% of iinternational students get some financial aid (need or merit based), but a full ride would be very unusual.

Thank you!! @intparent

I didn’t know about Common Data Set before. It’s really helpful. Thanks again @intparent

Most schools have them (a few don’t post them). Just Google “<college name=”"> Common Data Set". Lots of people don’t know about them, but they are a great source of information.</college>

They are indeed.
