<p>i'm currently a freshman at national taiwan university and am DYING to get a transfer. the main reason being that they don't actually offer any of the courses i want to do here. i'm hoping to be in Cali. asap. </p>
<p>however, my grades aren't looking very promising since i'm still struggling to cope with classes being taught in chinese. (well, i AM asian, but back in singapore, the standard of chinese is very different and we don't use it all that much. will elaborate if necc.) plus, i have to do a LOT of self-studying/research to catch up on all the "general studies" the local students learnt in high school.</p>
<p>i'm not even sure if i should try for a transfer. i'll need a lot of fin aid/scholarship but with my stats now, who am i kidding?!! i can hardly afford the app fees :(</p>
<p>just fyi, i only applied to 3 schools in the US (during freshman app):
grinnell - rejected
carleton - waitlisted
arcadia university - accepted w/huge scholarship (yea ok, i only applied for fun :S )</p>

<p>The Singapore government will NEVER pay for yr tuitions unless you are a scholar or some big shot... but they will give subsidies to those who are in need for financial aid. And nus and nanyang tech uni have been increasing their tuition fees every yr.</p>
<p>I am assuming that you are going to major in some chinese related stuff? How about china? llike Beijing uni? They are also using simplified chinese as us....</p>
<p>to kinkid: i'm actually a major in anthropology. when i called the dept office, they said i could do a concentrate in linguistic anthropology, but apparently that's far from the case. my current classes look suspiciously pre-med. btw, where are you from?</p>
<p>as to the reason i'm in taiwan..... though i don't have a definite answer yet, i'm confident it has something to do with my mom spiking my food or hypnotising me. </p>
<p>i was looking at usc, ucla and ucsd, but i doubt i'll get a good enough gpa.</p>

I am from Singapore too!!! haha... that's y i was rather surprised that you chose to go ntu, cuz tw is not really a common destination for singaporeans... So I guess yr chinese must be very good. I dont tink that nus offers anthropology? If u want to go to usc, i tink you must have a GPA of at least 3.6 and above. Are u only interested us uni or other countries uni too? U can also consider aust uni if u wan....</p>
