I am an international freshman student studying in the U.S. and I have to pay approximately $15,000. By my last year in college, I will have to pay $22,000. This is too much for my family and I want to transfer to another college where I might get more scholarships or financial aid. I plan on either majoring in Computer science or economics and minoring in the other one.
Does anybody have any suggestions on the colleges that I could apply to in the U.S. or Canada? I understand that colleges generally do not give good scholarships to international transfer students but if anyone could help, it’d be great.
Thank you.
Transfers generally don’t get more money. The colleges use their monies to lure freshman students that they really want.
As a transfer, it will be extremely tough to find affordable colleges and universities.
I think that the least expensive university in Canada for international students might be Memorial University of Newfoundland. However, my understanding is that the cost is likely to be quite close to what you are paying where you are. You can find information on their web site if you just google the name of the school. I have heard good things about the school, although the location is at one extreme end of Canada, and therefore far from most of the rest of the country.
Finding something in the US or Canada which costs less than $15,000 per year (for the total cost of a year at university including tuition, fees, room and board) is likely to be a challenge.
International transfers don’t get merit aid and financial aid goes to freshmen (at colleges that have it).
Why will costs increase by 1/3?
There is an annual increase each year in tuitions, unfortunately.
Wouldn’t your final financial aid increase too? in addition you’ll have an opportunity to earn money through work study/on campus and through internships.
After you’ve gotten accustomed to living in the US and working on campus, go to the career center and prepare a resume to prepare for internship applications.
