International transfer to USD

Hello everyone,

I am an italian student who attended an international school in Rome. I have completed the IB program with a score of 34 points and a grade of 7-7-5 in my higher level subject. I am currently a freshman in a university in the UK (one of the top 7 in the country), and was looking to transfer to the US. I sent my app to the university of San Diego. My high school gap was around 3.4/4 and my college GPA is about the same.

EC’s:
Captain of the varsity team
Played football at semi-pro level in Italy (practiced 5 times a week)
Assistant coach for the middle school team
Volunteer at a group home for orphans and children from difficult backgrounds.

Awards:
Academic achievements in IB spanish, IB italian and most improved in IB Math SL
1 MVP, 2 ALL-TOURNAMENT, 1 ALL-EUROPE, 2 ALL-REGION with the varsity soccer team

I read that students with competitive grades in college algebra and english will be given preference in admission. However, the UK system is different and therefore you don’t study the general subjects in the first year like in the US. Having done the IB I also have college credit from high school. I know it won’t transfer but at least they will see that I have done some pre-req’s.

Essay: Talked about the fact that I would like to continue my education in a US university because I believe the approach is more appealing and will help me to pursue my future goals.
Majoring in political science or Business and Economics.
I am also roman catholic and underscored that USD is the perfect environment for my growth as a student and as a community member.

Sorry for the long post, so what do you think are my chances?

Thanks for the inputs!

Two of my daughters transferred to and then graduated from USD. Your stats are just fine. Your chances are good.

Were you every paid to play soccer? If not, you might want consider providing some video to the coach. They are always looking for good players.

You will love San Diego.

Thanks for the reply! Do you think that transferring from the UK is going to hurt my chances? I was never paid to play.
Would sports or the fact of being an international be a hook in admissions?

Being an international will help with admissions.

If you’re a good enough soccer player, the coach can help with admissions if he needs players with your skill sets.

Any other opinion?

Hi,

I was pretty much in your position last year. I’m also an international student. You will get in, and I’m sure you’ll love it.

PM me if you are still considering USD and have any questions.
