Internationals Transferring! (Please help me out!! I need it)

I'll keep this brief and get right to the point. I may sound naive on some questions, but I'm truly looking for answers, so please help me out.

I'm on student visa and I applied to a college that I don't enjoy, the majority of people are close-minded, almost everyone is white (not that I'm racist, but I like a lot of diversity and see some people of my kind), the whether is crap, most people come from in-state, they don't have a great program for my major, the dorms are smaller than a jail cell and I'll be paying $1000 on the dorms and a food plan (I think that's a lot, seeing how some people pay around $300 with roomies), and now I wish I did my research quite well before making this decision! I regret it, and looking at reviews at studentsreviews.com would have helped to make me avoid this college!

Here's what I want to know:

-Of course I'm on student visa, and on the visa it mentions the name of the university and the # for the college etc, if I want to transfer, will have to get another visa?? does that mean I need to request another i-20 and go through another visa interview and pay another fee etc? THIS IS FRUSTRATING!! please tell me

-Do I need to complete an entire year before transfering? or can I transfer between trimesters? I want to transfer from trimester to semester after only 2 trimesters, so I'd still be freshmen, but how does that work?? I can't seem to get my hands on 'transfering' info on google, so help me out.

-What will the college be looking at when I apply for transfer? will they look at my progress at the completed university courses ONLY?, or will they request to see my high school report?

Any input would be appreciated.

in response to question 2....
it depends on which school you want to apply to. also, some universities admit students during spring. but usually, international students are only considered for admission during the fall. it would be best first if you'd figure out which schools you want to transfer to. then you could get some info regarding transferring.

for question 3
- if you don't have maybe about 60 (semester) credits, then universities usually would have to look at your high school grades, which would greatly influence your chances. but of course, they also take into consideration college grades. but if you have about 60 or more, although they might ask for your hs report, they won't matter as much when it comes to getting admitted.

timantha_turner,
Thanks for your reply!

I'm going to be transferring during the summer, so it's going to be the Fall term, and the reason is that I'd have ample time to fill in applications, get visa, etc.. so it's great to know that it's easier during that period, but I'll check with the universities (2 in mind) to make sure it's good.

I appreciate your help, any internationals willing to answer question #1?

BUMP, anyone??

for #1, i guess it would be best to contact the admissions office of the school you wish to apply to.

concerning the visa question, u dont need another visa , even though ur visa has the name of ur current univeristy. what u need is another I-20 issued by the new university u get accepted to and u should always keep ur old I-20 with u when leaving and re-entering the States. The only time the new uni can issue an 1-20 is when u have completed ur term at the old school.
all the best to u.

Thanks a lot guys, I was skeptical on all 3 questions I asked, but I got the best answers and I suppose I can say the most convenient solutions.

Just one last question (lol - sorry), Will I be able to finish in 4 years or less? or will there be a lot of catching up to do to the point that I'll need more than 4 years?

I guess that has a lot to do with the school and its major requirement, better check with the school or you could check their graduation/major requirement see if any of the courses you took match them

with regards to the fourth question...

it would really depend on the school you want to transfer to. keep in mind that probably not all of the courses you took from the other university would transfer to the new one.
