Internationals!!

Hey :) Haven't heard much from the internationals, so I thought I'd start a thread for us all to get together. If you're planning on going to Columbia this fall and live overseas put your name, nationality, place of residence, intended major, and anything else you think is interesting/important. Ok I'll go first:

I'm Diva, I'm Indian, but live in Dubai (before that in Japan). I think I'm going to do Poli. Sci. and Econ. in CC. I like long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners...hehe, just kidding! I like dance, Desperate Housewives, and just hanging out :)

Greetings from the land up north!

I'm Daniel, I'm Korean, but currently living in Canada (prior to that, the States, Korea, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and Thailand). Regarding my prospective major, probably Econ., but Poli. Sci is also an option I have considered; all in all, anything is bound to happen. My interests are primarily the guitar (maily electric, little classical, not much of acoustic but nevertheless) as well as music (classic rock, heavy metal, progressive metal, grunge, etc.). I also love to chill, and am more than excited to meet new people. Enough about me, what about you?

SEAS girl from canada here=p born in china and had highschool here in canada. as for my major, I'm deciding between applied math, IEOR and computer science (probably comp sci)..

as for anything else about me.. come and find out this fall =p

Hi I'm Delia, Beijing-born Australian, intending to study economics-mathematics. Pleased to meet fellow internationals. Have you guys checked out the Columbia College message board? There's a int'l post there.

See you this fall : )

Hey guys. I am Nigerian, but I am living in Virginia. I intend on majoring in Physics and Math and possibly doing something in Engineering.

Well I cant wait to see you guys in the fall.

hi guys, I'm an international student planning to apply to CC next year. I was just wondering if you guys got any aid from the college? And is Columbia very stingy with their aid for international students?

oooooh...forbidden topic!

I think so, yes. There's a post about it somewhere. Apparently it's Columbia's policy to view applicants requiring aid more competitively against other applicants. Also, international students admitted with no aid should not expect to be guaranteed aid in subsequent years, even if family circumstances change...

Where are you from, tbhnams?

tbhnams: I am from Singapore too and I was accepted this fall but I did not ask for any aid though. I believe that Columbia is not need-blind for internationals but I am not sure about how stingy they are. Sorry.

Columbia is definately need blind and most definately not stingy. Columbia offered me $28000 in grant and $2000 in workstudy-no loans(yay). And that was by far the most generous amongst Cornell, Columbia and UVa(the schools I got accepted to. However I cant say that this the case for everyone, I may just have been fortunate. Well I wish you the best.

The fact that you got a grant from Columbia doesn't necessarily attribute to Columbia being need blind...

sorry i haven't been online lately..Im from Vietnam but doing my A level in Singapore:)..
To Afrikaan: need blind does not mean they will guarantee aid waht? it's only for admission process. and i seem to remember that the application stated that need blind is not applied to foreign students.
depression_10: r you in Singapore now? Which JC did you go to>

Yes. I am in Singapore now. I went to National Junior College. How about you? What is your intended major?

hey my name is leyla and i was wondering if you could help me out trying to get into columbia, brown, possibly harvard....since you got accepted i hope you can give me some pointers and tell me about yourself to see if im sort of in the same track hehe....thanks
