I initially started off at a 4 year school as an engineering major, hated the major and was performing poorly after 2 years, left to go to community college for a fresh start to save my parents some money as a political science major with the intention of heading to law school after my undergraduate studies are completed. i now have a 2.75 gpa. i was wondering:
a) how much does work/internship experience related to your major offset a lower gpa. i know many transfers to the better schools have a 3.5-3.75+ gpa, which i cannot approach by the end of this semester even with a 4.0 semester gpa, but i have had one internship in state government and am completing a second internship currently for a very large private company in DC in their government affairs office while taking classes for credit at georgetown as a visiting student. i've heard various anecdotal stories stating that internship experience with good letters of recommendation from said internships can help offset a lower gpa.

due to my initial troubles with college i retook the SAT in OCT 2008 since it had been nearly 6 years since the last time i tested and scored a 710 verbal and 650 Math(havent had to take any math courses in 4 years so good for me all things considered)

With my gpa, test scores, and two fairly prominent internships along with a transcript from taking a semester of courses at Georgetown that will in all likelihood be 12 credits worth of A's, what are some good schools to transfer to as a political science major with the intent to apply to law school afterwards? ideally i would like to stay in the DC area and go to GWU, but anywhere else that has a solid program would work for me. Suggestions?

thanks in advance
