Internship for college credit

So if I wanted to get credit for an internship at UCLA, how would I go about doing that?

Background: undeclared comparative literature major, hopeful communications studies major (waiting until september)

Do they offer 195 courses over the summer?

Check with the department you want to do it with, I know my suitemate is doing one for a sports agency this quarter, although I'm not sure what type of class it is currently. I'm doing Chem 196, but that's for research. If nobody gets back to you tonight, i'll ask.

Yes, there is 195 in the summer for SELECTED fields (ex. history).

Okay so what you want to do, is go to Murphy and go to the Office/Center of Community Learning on the first floor next to counseling. Apparently you can choose a variety of different departments to do your internship under (take the syllabuses and check the reqs. out). My suitemate said History had some of the easier and more lenient policies, although it's only P/NP credit. Any case, hope this helps.

sorry to bring this thread back from the grave! so i kinda get the process of going to murphy. problem is, signing up for academic credit for an internship during week 3 and after - are these courses considered in the same breadth as regular ucla classes (that is, can we still go through with enrollment)?

yeah, they’re considered the same as a ucla class (drop/add deadlines)

if we are getting credit for an unpaid internship in the summer, doesn’t that mean we have to pay for the 195 course? so in essence we’re basically paying for an unpaid internship. how ironic - i cant believe they dont give an option where the employer just signs off on it without the stupid course

yeah, there was an article about this either in the DB or on the web about how students are essentially paying for internships… broken system…

How do you get around it? Get a paid internship. Possibly ask the employer to fund an honorarium that pays for your course *take as few units as possible.
