Hi, I was just wondering my dad was saying that he might be able to get me an internship with an investment banking firm over the summer and I'm still in High School. I was wondering how this would look to colleges because people have said that colleges aren't that interested in internships.

It’s an EC, and it shows that you’re actually interested in the field. Go for it! Unless you have something more productive you can do over the summer.

Let me ask you frankly this question: did you have a better or more creative option? Were you going to do something spectacular (research, write, travel and explore)? Or was it more common (work at a pool, summer camp, etc.)? If not the former, then do what you think will enhance and interest you the most. If IB sounds boring versus working at a camp for disabled youth e.g. to you, then do the latter. If being in an IB environment sounds interesting, then take it. Know in advance that your tasks/projects will be rather mundane but you’ll get a small taste of that life.

Bottom line: colleges are interested in what interests you – not the pull your relations may have. If IB really interests you, then congrats – a great confluence of motivation and opportunity. If you think an IB internship, by its nature, is impressive – no not really. My first thought would be: “I wonder which relative pulled strings to get him/her the internship”
