I'm a junior, and im going to try to get an internship at a company that my dad works for. It normally only allows internships for 18 year olds and up, and im only 16. But my dad is an executive w/ connections and i might be able to intern there (albeit w/o pay). It was a small risk financing and insurance management company but has recently expanded to become much bigger. I know having a job is not always advisable, since focusing on academics and extracurriculars are better, but do you think an internship in a professional business environment like this will help in my college application proccess?

(Im in 11th grade, plan to work over summer.)

If you can balance a job and your academics then that sets you apart. I would try to get a job if I were you if you don't go for the internship. Also, you shouldn't look at these kind of opportunities as "will it help my transcript." More like "will it be a good experience."

Don't do things just to look good on paper. Do them because you want to do them.

I agree with ______
Plus, especially if you're getting it because your dad works there, and has connections, it really has no meaning because you're not getting it on any qualifications of your own.

Other than that, do it for experience. A job usually looks better, though.
