Is it easy to get internships in LA? I'm going to be an international relations major, and I'm trying to choose between studying in LA or D.C. (George Washington U.) I'm stuck between the two. I feel that USC may be stronger overall academically/reputation-wise, but as far as my major goes, its hard to pass up studying in D.C. Essentially, I need an earthshaking, gutwrenching reason why USC would be a superior choice to an IR school in D.C. Help!

USC has several on campus offices to help you get jobs/internships, from what I've heard.

A lot of students here hold internships. USC's location - right in the heart of Los Angeles - is very convenient in this regard.

please someone add more input on this topic; im in the same sitch as recentlyaccepted....

yeah i was wondering the same thing...im debating whether to attend nyu instead of IR because there seems to be more internship possibilities but i really dislike how they dont have a campus

FWIW, I'm a USC student and will be interning in DC this summer. I found an internship program that provides housing and a stipend for the 10 weeks I'm there. Quite convenient. I know an IR/Econ double major who interned at the UN headquarters, so getting opportunities in the East isn't impossible for students in LA.

I've also gotten an internship back east for the summer, although I didn't go through the school since I was looking for something very specific. Once I had sent my resume though the internship was more than willing to take me on. It's definitely not a detriment being on the west coast.

generally internships are geared for juniors or seniors.
but USC does have job listings, and has lots of career planning, and even career fairs.
if you go to annenberg, they have their own separate career center, job listings (daily) and job fair
looking early doesn't hurt :)

do a large percentage of students find internships if they are looking? i have heard that the USC international relations program is not that widely known or recognized...can anyone validate/devalidate that?
