Do they have good internships and job placement in the Econ Department?
I’m only a sophomore, but it sounds like it’s good. I suppose every school says their placement is great? Not a lot of prominent business alumni that I’ve heard about. but I would guess people (grad schools) still kinda know about the school. It’s recognition isn’t not like Harvard, or even like Middlebury, but I think it’s still alright.
One thing I have heard is that the career center sometimes caters to Econ jobs too much. A lot of the other majors, like those trying to go to med school, law school, or even those trying to get a job that’s more financed-based have a tough time sometimes. I’m thinking about being an Econ major, but I’m not sure yet, because I’d want to try to get a Finance job, not an Economics job. Those jobs are either more in the realm of government or academic jobs, not like banking, wealth management, or finance.
I would not completely agree with googglesguy97. While getting finance jobs are difficult, it’s not because the college does not help you, but because such jobs are very competitive. If you are not good enough for a job, or do not give your best in interviews and in the recruitment process, you won’t get the job. There are a lot of Colby alums at institutions like Citi Bank, Goldman Sachs, and Berkshire Hathaway. These companies also hold information sessions on campus, and they want students from Colby. You just have to walk the extra mile to connect with alumni, who are more than willing to help you to get the job you want.
If you do not want a finance job, Colby’s Career Center can help you to get other jobs too. Of course Colby is not as renowned as the ivies, and I don’t think it matters when you are motivated enough.
