Hi, I am a prospective ece major at Cornell (have to decide between Cornell and cmu tonight) and I really need to know how are the internship opportunities at Cornell in comparison to cmu? Where is it easier to get internships freshman/sophomore year? Also, how is the AI focus at Cornell in comparison to CMU?
I can tell you that, for one thing, Cornell offers a formal “co-op-program” for engineering students, you might take a look at it.

Don’t know about comparative “focus”, but here is some data relating to faculty. You can check an uncheck the boxes as you desire…

I should mention that, at least when I attended, the co-op program was definitely a big deal, with a lot of good companies participating. Nevertheless the pool of available internship opportunities companies were willing to offer was not unlimited. So participation was rationed to the better students, using a GPA cutoff.
Then there was a selection process, the companies looked at resumes & transcripts, and conducted interviews.
So having the program is good, but you still have to do well enough to qualify and have whatever it is the employers who come there are looking for. Participation is not guaranteed.
