Hey everyone

So I've seen some threads about internships, but I'm interested in finding out more about internships for incoming Freshman.

I'm starting college this year - so would it be possible at all to get an internship at a bank somewhere?

I'm ideally looking for spots in Europe [I'm from Europe] - I looked at RBS and they have some good spots, but would a freshman be competitive enough? (I'm not at a target school!)

Are there any other good internships in Europe that accept American college students as freshman?

You’re best bet will be to look at smaller shops and don’t get stuck on one particular role - IB or S&T, etc. Instead, look towards a wider range of possible opportunities at a broad list of companies from bulge brackets to small boutiques to F500 companies, etc. Additionally, you will need to cast a wide net in terms cold calling, resume dropping, and so forth. As a freshman, you might not have a ton to offer, but there are many positions, especially those unpaid, in very intro financial roles that will be able to help you to bulk up your resume a bit as you move into soph and junior years. Here is an article on [different internship opportunities](http://www.bankonbanking.com/2010/03/15/no-summer-analyst-ib-offer-–-is-life-over/) outside of BB IB for you to consider and also don’t forget about things like private wealth management, control - and there is, again, nothing wrong with working for free for a semester.
