Interpretation of GPAs

Hello there!

I posted this at different forum section, but I think I should post it in UW forum.

I’ve got a question regarding the symmetry of GPAs. In Indonesia, GPA-equipped systems are uncommon. Also, we’ve got a slightly different grading system. Yet, some schools do have GPA-equipped systems.

For example, in order to acquire a GPA of 3.67, your total semester average has to be within 80-85 out of 100.

Does UW accept foreign GPAs the way they are? Will UW convert foreign GPAs?

They will probably convert your GPA to the scale they use. Usually, the percentage to GPA conversion here varies by department and instructor, so it’s really hard to tell which scale they’ll use (for general admissions).

However, according to the link below, your GPA can be anywhere from 2.2 to 3.1 (depends on whether they’ll consider 80-85% as a B, B-, or C+).

Most of the courses that I’ve been enrolled in had 2.4-2.5 as 80% with 0.1 increase/decrease in GPA equaling 1% increase/decrease (so if 80%=2.4, 81%=2.5 and 79%=2.3), if this helps.

I see. I’ll check the link.
