Asymmetry of GPAs

Hello there!

I’ve got a question regarding the symmetry of GPAs. In Indonesia, GPA is not very common. Also, we’ve got a slightly different grading system. Yet, some schools do have GPA-equipped systems.

For example, in order to acquire a GPA of 3.67, your total semester average has to be within 80-85 out of 100.

Are US Universities going to accept these GPAs? Are they going to convert them?

Yes, the universities you apply to will be familiar with the 100 point system, as this is used in many places, including some schools in the US and Canada.

Are they going to convert my GPA?

You would have to ask the school. But US colleges have admissions officers who are specialists doing international admissions. They will know how to view your transcript in context.

Yes, they will convert your GPA to a scale they use. It’s not a big problem since it’s very common with international applicants

Is it going to cause a dramatic change in GPA (e.g 3.9 to 3.5)?

There is no way to forecast that. It will vary by college.
