interships at St. Lawrence?

We recently visited St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. My DD absolutely loved the smallness of it and the first year program concept. Although I liked the atmosphere, the university is set really far away from any major cities (2 hours). Therefore, my concern is regarding real internship opportunities. Will she have opportunities available during her years there so that she can graduate with some experience. Also, who recruits from these schools?

The people I spoke to at the school did mention that students are encouraged to seek these opportunities via the study abroad program, but we did not have time to get more specific. What about on a more local level? I am thinking about future employers.

She wants to major in English and possibly seek a career in creative writing or work as an Editor. I would love to hear from anyone who has attended this school or is familiar with it.

The computer erased my response to your post and I don't have time for a rewrite.

My dd, a sophomore, was awarded a University fellowship this past summer through the Engilish dept. She had a fantastic experience working exclusively with her advisor and the fellowship keeps giving with opportunities for further fellowships and and presentations at conferences. She raves about her profs in the English dept and finds them to be totally commited to the students.

The SLU network is VERY strong and dedicated to recent graduates and alumni. The FYP (First Year Program) is unique and recognized throughout the country. I will try to find some info on it for you.
