Do you think that being contacted for an alumni interview may mean applicant is being seriously considered? My son had his interview. Said it was pleasant and no surprises...but would they bother with someone who wasn't a serious candidate?

Sorry–no reflection on chances. Middlebury makes an attempt to interview every applicant who lives within a certain distance of an alum.

Many LACs say that an interview is not a significant factor in your application, but so far as I was concerned, most of the applicants who were admitted in either ED or RD had at least one interview. I was deferred in ED by Midd last year and another applicant that I knew who was admitted was given an interview( I was not given an interview). I heard from many LACs alums that LAC will pick up their students from those who were given interviews and whose backfeed reports looked nice. I cannot say for sure, but at least for international applicants, having an interview seems to be a good start.
Good luck to your son!

I’ve always been told that interviews really only show interest in a college. I wish (and hope!) they mean more than that in the admissions process.

Don’t read too much into being granted an interview. I’m an alumni interviewer and I just received an email last night which explained that Middlebury tries to interview literally every applicant. I’ve done interviews in the past. Some were excellent applicants and some were simply wasting my time. An interview is a good opportunity, but at Middlebury it’s no indication of interest.

D admitted EDI to Midd – no interview.

S admitted RD for class '13 - no interview

ok…thanks…pretty much what I thought. Again, Thanks! we’re just hoping so much!!! It’s a reach school for him.
