My interviewer said in an e-mail that the interview with her is "not an interview - just a one-on-one meeting with one of Cornell's biggest fans."
Is this true? Does the interviewer send any material back to Cornell. I've already done a couple interviews, but I'm so busy I don't know if I can fit this one in. I'm thinking also that Cornell may just tell their interviewers to say this to either releve stress among the interviewee or really weed out the people who won't pursue and interview that doesn't matter.
Can anyone shed some light on the matter?

Just got an alum call today. Since I'm applying to CAS, it's not an "interview", according to the alum. Simply a chance to get to know more about Cornell.

You can bet that I'll have my enthusiastic game face on and come prepared with q's, and be ready with crisp answers about my interests.

you may be confusing the required interview (not all of the schools at cornell has them) with an alumni contact. alumni contacts, are as 2bztp said, a chance for you to ask questions mainly. your interviewer will ask you questions and send some info to cornell (at least mine did), but it is not required..or considered as far as i know.

i'm not sure how it will look if you decline, maybe that is something you can email your alumni. i wouldn't stress about it though.

Well my other interviews I know they were required to send something back to the school. Anyone else know?

These alumni interviewers are required to send back a report on their observations of you. but they do not necessarily have to write a whole lot, if they didn't find anything too unusual or exceptional....which would not be very good. They are just trying to find out something more about you that are not reflected on your application forms, like all interviews. Of course, it's an opportunity for you to ask questions.
I have mine tomorrow. Wish me luck. :P

I know a family friend who does these kinds of interviews, and he says that he writes up a little report to send back to cornell. From what he understands, Cornell probably don't take these reports that seriously, but they will note if you're a complete moron.

Ugh, I really don't feel like putting on my happy face and shooting the breeze for a couple of hours. If yer contacted by an alumni, are you expected to interview....does it look bad/affect your app if you declined? I know they're optional, but is it recommended?

my princeton interviewer basically said that the interview was for me to find out more about pton, and that i shouldnt be nervous, because he said "think about all the things you sent to princeton. my report will be a page long at most. now think of how much impact that can honestly have". that said, id assume its similar at cornell, the interview will not make or break you

How serious are you about a school if you can't even spend an hour to find out more about it? No need to make Cornell feel like a back up school.
