Is taking the risk of having a poor interview worth any benefit which would be created through a strong interview?
You should definitely interview. I remember my Penn interview started with my interviewer saying something along the lines of that the interview cannot hurt your application, and that its primary purpose is so you can learn more about the school. She followed up by saying that she wanted to let me know that, so I can speak honestly and not feel forced to say what “sounds good.” We then had a nice conversation about Penn and other general topics and that was it. Declining an interview when you are offered one though will likely raise a red flag that can hurt your application.
I would take it. Talking to an alumnus can really help you learn more about the school.
Looks like I will be scheduling an interview this fall.
Thanks.
@TGLTGL if an alumni interviewer is available in your area, he or she will contact you to schedule an interview after you have submitted your application, or you might be offered a skype interview.
@LKjh0987 Haha oops, I’m embarrassed. I had no clue.
@TGLTGL Some colleges require you to contact them for an interview, but Penn will contact you. The admissions page usually says what the interview procedure is and if they are even offered. Some schools have deadlines for you to contact them for an interview so you have to pay attention to each school’s requirements.
