I just got an interview request from Harvard. The weird thing about it (and please don't be jealous) is that I haven't applied yet. Harvard is on my Common App list, but I will be applying there regular decision, and I haven't even started my application. Did this happen to anyone else?

I’m not certain, but a similar thing happened when I applied to Yale. I got an e-mail from Yale saying we know you’re applying early action, you should look at Yale-NUS…when I hadn’t submitted my application yet or any part of it (even though I ended up doing that). Somehow, they know you’re going to apply? Maybe you filled out some form or something?

Was it from an admissions officer or an alumnus…?

Nice! That sounds cool, that didn’t happen to me but I know that colleges do know when you have added them to your commonapp list because many have emailed me saying “While your filling out your common application for us take a look at blah blah college advertising”. I got my Harvard interview basically the day after they got my app, in fact I just got home from it, it was a really nice and low-stress conversation.

Cedardog, I got the same e-mail, haha. I think colleges receive notification that so-and-so has started an application or something.

OP- the date on which you are contacted for an interview has no bearing on the likelihood of admission. If the common ap sent your name to admissions, you were put on an alum’s list to interview. That interviewer may want to finish all the interviews well before the new year.

@fauve: have you ever heard of this before? Frankly I’m concerned that someone is trying to foist a cruel joke on the OP. For my alma mater, we don’t get students’ names until their files are deemed complete. The fact that the OP hasn’t even submitted one item to H seems very bizarre.

@rhetoric: maybe I’m being paranoid but please be wary.

When did the OP apply?

Or rather (given he hasn’t yet applied) anyone else has and subsequently requested an interview?
